Using the superior strength of mortise and tennon construction on the cross rails permanently glued to the solid oak and panels results in a sturdy basic design. Tops are cleated and screwed to the end panels and the front and back case spacer rails. Back panels are routed into all four adjacent components. The drawers are constructed with interlocking dovetail joinery..
One-hundred pound capacity epoxy-coated steel drawer slides with nylon rollers provide quiet and smooth motion, while the case is covered with a catalyzed lacquer finish that resists impacts and chemical solvents such as nail polish remover and other strong solvents. Employing space-saving thinking into the design allows flexibility for furniture placement to meet the needs of the student in a limited space.
